In Guyana, nurses renew their licence annually and hospital employers commonly expect Basic Life Support, while for patient-care roles emergency response is built into the qualifying pathway. Nurses in Guyana are registered and regulated by the Nurses and Midwives Council of Guyana, which renews licences annually from December 1. Nurses are expected to keep their clinical and emergency skills current, and hospital employers commonly require Basic Life Support as a condition of the post.

No official rule was found tying annual licence renewal to a fixed number of continuing-education hours or to CPR/BLS specifically. The professional duty to maintain competence and to respond in an emergency, together with employer requirements, is what drives ongoing training; a recognized, in-date credential is the practical way to evidence it.

Licence renewal in Guyana is annual (from December 1); no continuing-education hour requirement for renewal was confirmed by an official source, and keeping skills current is largely employer-driven. Whether a CPR/BLS course counts toward continuing education is not documented, so no fixed figure should be assumed.

For support staff, emergency response is embedded in the qualifying pathway. The government Patient Care Assistant Training Programme, delivered through the Ministry of Health and the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation, includes emergency response in its curriculum. For patient-care and home-care roles a valid recognized standalone CPR and first-aid certificate is required and accepted alongside that occupational training — obtained and then renewed, kept current and verifiable.
