Online first aid courses

Guyana's Occupational Safety and Health Act (Cap. 99:10, 1997) sets an 'adequate provision' duty rather than a fixed ratio, requiring employers to keep a stocked medicine chest and trained first-aid personnel available, aligned with the UK model (a trained person in charge above 150 workers). It is enforced by the Occupational Safety and Health Department of the Ministry of Labour.

Under the Childcare and Development Services Regulation No. 3 of 2016 (made under the Childcare and Development Services Act 2009), early-childhood caregivers must be trained in 'lifesaving and CPR', and residential facilities must have at least one staff member on duty trained in first aid (reg. 9(2)(h)). Oversight sits with the Childcare and Protection Agency (CPA) within the Ministry of Human Services and Social Security.

Guyana has no dedicated Good Samaritan statute; as a common-law jurisdiction, a rescuer's protection rests on negligence principles, with liability only for falling below the reasonable-person standard. There is no legal duty to rescue and no specific AED liability protection.

Nurses in Guyana are registered and regulated by the Nurses and Midwives Council of Guyana, which renews licences annually from December 1, and hospital employers commonly require Basic Life Support as a condition of the post. No official rule ties renewal to a fixed number of continuing-education hours or to CPR/BLS specifically, so ongoing training is driven by professional duty and employer requirements.

In Guyana, care staff in residential and home-care settings for seniors and vulnerable adults are trained through the Ministry of Health / Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation Patient Care Assistant Training Programme, which embeds emergency response, and employers also accept a standalone recognized CPR/first-aid certificate. The expectation is set by the programme and the employer rather than by a single residential-care statute.

Foster care in Guyana is managed by the Childcare and Protection Agency (CPA) within the Ministry of Human Services and Social Security under the Childcare and Development Services Act 2011, with applicants assessed, background-checked and prepared before a placement. A recognized, current first-aid and CPR certificate is commonly expected as part of caregiver readiness and, where required, is recognized by the CPA.

Online CPR and first aid training is recognized in Guyana, whether for personal knowledge, childcare licensing, or employer requirements, since the Act does not prescribe a delivery mode. Workplace first-aid training combining online theory with a practical assessment is accepted, with a 3-year certification validity.
